In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the famous oral historian and radio producer Studs Terkel’s book “Working”, we have decided to pick up where he left off. His book is about capturing the dimension of a working life as “a search for daily meaning as well as daily bread, for recognition as well as cash, for astonishment rather than torpor; in short, for a sort of life rather than a Monday though Friday sort of dying.” We want to capture this life in sound and story, from the mouths of the people who live it every day.
The project is being “seeded” by alumni of the Transom Story Workshop (Fall 2011 & Spring 2012) but we welcome contributions from other radio producers, storytellers and working people themselves.
SoundCloud has generously supported this project with funding. We have resources to fund seven original pieces made specifically for the project. Click here for more information on what we’re looking for and to find out more.
